We believe that caring for the whole person requires us to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in our community. We encourage a community free of discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, sexual expression or gender identity. We are an ally to those who identify as LGBTQ+ and strive to create a caring, just and affirming place to live.
Comfortable Accommodations
All rooms at the LLDH Home can be furnished upon request. That said, nothing makes one feel more at home than being surrounded by his or her personal belongings. Residents are encouraged to personalize their rooms with photos, artwork, and small pieces of furniture to create a familiar and comforting environment. All rooms have a telephone connection, cable TV, free WiFi, and a nurse call system.
Enrichment and Extracurricular Activities
Our activities team organizes events, entertainment, and outings such as restaurant visits, shopping, and local excursions. Many residents use these opportunities to discover new interests. Residents enjoy our movie program, free computer and email access, and relaxing activities like cruising the Potomac or listening to music in their rooms.
Restaurant Dining
Residents help select delicious and nutritious menus, making mealtimes popular. Meals are served either in our two inviting dining rooms or in residents' own rooms. Menus are planned by a registered dietician and freshly prepared in-house. Fresh fruit, alternative selections, special diets, and our varied salad bar are resident favorites.
Social Services
Our social services help residents identify and meet their social and emotional needs, drawing upon their strengths to promote self-worth and fulfillment. Whether visiting our beauty and barber shop or spending afternoons exercising and trading jokes with the therapy team, laughter and joy are integral to life here.
The mission of the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt (LLDH) Home is to provide extraordinary health and life care services to low- and modest-income elders of the District of Columbia, empowering them to live their lives to the fullest. The Home offers a skilled nursing facility, assisted living services, as well as Medicare and Medicaid covered services, including EPD Waiver Assisted Living benefits.
Our care is person-centered and tailored to the individual. We aim to provide a compassionate and meaningful living experience that encourages residents to age in place.
The Home has been recognized by organizations such as U.S. News and World Report as an outstanding senior living care facility and has consistently earned a 5-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Most recently, the Federal City Council’s Committee of 100 awarded the Home the 2024 Vision Award.
People often worry individualized care is costly, but the LLDH Home specifically serves modest and low-income elders, honoring the wishes of our founders, Abraham and Laura Lisner. Fees are based on ability to pay, with Medicaid and other benefit programs helping cover costs.
Upon admission, residents agree to enroll in the Waiver’s assisted living benefit, helping the Home cover expenses for personal care, housekeeping, laundry, skilled nursing services, and additional professional support services.
Residents are also asked to meet the Medicaid HCBS eligibility requirements, which generally include:
Discover compassionate care, personalized services, and a vibrant community.
Residents will also be asked by the LLDH Home to pay income in total towards daily room and board. Residents are given a monthly personal needs allowance of $100.
Additional exemptions to income requirements may include health insurance premiums or Medicare Part B premiums. Further exemptions may be considered by the facility if submitted in writing by the resident or the resident’s responsible party.
